Dylan Alvarez | The Batman Alternative Poster
There are many things that make Dylan's poster for The Batman successful. It is visually engaging, both because of the red/black contrast and detail, but also because of the small easter eggs that compel the viewer to keep looking. The style and type treatment feels true to the film. Furthermore, Reeve's film is a very different Batman movie, tonally and even visually, than the ones that came before it. It was darker, grittier, and showed sides of the character that felt fresh as compared to other films. Similarly, Dylan's poster sets itself apart from the many, many Batman movie posters that are out there.
My name is Dylan Alvarez and I’m an illustrator and designer from Burbank, California.
I think of myself as someone who can wear many different hats and I find inspiration in
my passions and interests outside of illustration and design. I particularly love movies, music, history, and expressive writing like poetry or short stories and I try to reference elements of these subjects in my work when I can.

The Batman (2022) starring Robert Pattinson returns follows a young Bruce Wayne in his early years as the Batman. Following a string of murders by the mysterious Riddler, Batman, with the help of Detective Jim Gordon, must uncover the identity of the Riddler and protect Gotham city from destruction and political corruption. Reminiscent of the classic film noir genre of movies, there is a darkness to the aesthetic of the film broken up by vibrant reds and greens which help build a nice visual contrast. This poster draws on that established aesthetic and aims to create a dark and mysterious feeling that is somewhat lost in the theatrical posters. Similar to the film, this poster invites the viewer to look closer and find meaning in small clues and details.

Dylan's favorite movies are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Interstellar, Blade Runner, and What Dreams May Come
