Josie Brett | Oppenheimer Alternative Poster
I like to keep things simple when creating art (especially movie posters). I redesign them for my own pleasure and to stretch my artistic muscle. And I enjoy sharing them with the world.
This is for an autobiographical film about J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb.” It’s nominated for an Oscar this year, and as a personal challenge to myself I try to redesign all the Best Picture nominees that I’ve seen. Also this is my personal favorite because I had a lot of fun designing it.
The title features elemental symbols from the periodic table, because of the emphasis on the chemistry in the film. The mushroom cloud (with Oppenheimer as half of it) represents his close association with the Manhattan project. Also the brim of his hat was a perfect tangent to the ring around the mushroom cloud. I think this poster is a much better representation of Oppenheimer's connection to the atomic bomb. The official ones don't convey this nearly as well.
Josie's favorite films are: Across the Universe, Last Night in Soho, La La Land, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
