Josie Brett | Belfast Alternative Poster
I like to keep things simple when creating art (especially movie posters). I redesign them for my own pleasure and to stretch my artistic muscle. And I enjoy sharing them with the world.
Belfast is a semi-autobiographical film by Kenneth Branagh that depicts a young boy’s coming-of-age in 1960s Belfast. I chose this particular poster because of its simplicity. Also, again, it was really fun to design. The movie was in black-and-white, so I thought it would be fitting if the poster was as well. The row houses were prevalent throughout the film, and was where the central protagonist and his family lived. The barbed wire was also extremely prevalent, which is why it's in the foreground and why the title is tangled up in it. I chose yellow because it's a bright happy color, and contrasts with the dreariness of its surroundings. I think this poster speaks to the motifs in the film. The official posters are just photographs and don't really tell us anything about it.
Josie's favorite films are: Across the Universe, Last Night in Soho, La La Land, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
